Blog #2

In the article, "Virtual Popularity Isn't Cool-It's Pathetic" by Ian Daly he talks about how social networking sites can be a huge distractions to people from their actual work and/or any school assignments. Facebook is one of the sites he mentions in his article and says how it is a pointless site but somehow there's people checking their Facebook religiously like if there's something going on every 5-10 minutes when it shows the same thing we just seen last two times we checked it. Somebody can have hundreds of "friends" on Facebook but they are really not considered as friends because more than half of them you don't even talk to or even hang out with. All you really know that's going on with them is if they post a status/picture on Facebook, tweet, or share a picture on Instagram. If your trying to contact them through these social networks they have options, like on Facebook they have the option to write them a private message or simply writing on their wall. Daly explains why would we sign up to create an account just to get in contact with them when we can either text the person or give them a call. I would agree with him on that but what if whoever you're trying to contact has no phone and the only way to get a hold of them is through these social networks. Also if some of these people are trying to get noticed for their singing, acting, dancing, etc., they want to be put out somewhere where they know they would be noticed by friends or just random people. There's plenty of pros and cons of social networks but for having them distract you from more important things like your school work, job, actual friends, family and focusing on you and your self image i would say it is really pathetic.
